Culture At A Crossroads

Episode 1

On October 7, 2019 Devan William Selvey was stabbed to death outside Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Hamilton, ON. The grade nine student had been a victim of bullying. His mother Shari-Ann Selvey arrived in the parking lot in time to witness the assault, but not in time to save her son.

Shari-Ann shares what it was like to raise a son bullied to this extreme, and how Devan coped with it. Shari helps identify the identity of a bully, and offers her take on how bullying can be prevented.

Plus, Shari-Ann and I consider the relevance of Jesus' humility in terms of interactions with others, and she tries to reconcile God's place in the midst of this tragedy.
